EducationI graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2010 with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. During my time at the University of Michigan-Dearborn I did undergraduate research for the Chemistry department and was treasurer of the Chemistry Club.
Currently I substitute teach middle school and high school in math and science subjects. I was a long term substitute teacher for physical science, biology, physics and chemistry classes.
ExperienceWhile attending the University of Michigan-Dearborn, I was treasurer of the chemistry club and was a research student in Analytical Chemistry. Immediately after graduating in December 2010, I started working as an analytical chemist in industry in January 2011.
I am the perfect tutor for a student who needs concepts explained slowly, clearly, and in an easy-to-understand way. I have patience that comes from several years of experience tutoring various math and science subjects to high school and college students.
I love to encourage students who believe "they are just not good at math or science” because the subjects discussed in class seem daunting and confusing. I motivate my students to push past their frustrations, to practice, practice, and practice until they have the skills and confidence to conquer their subject without fear. After all, practice makes perfect.
As a former University of Michigan-Dearborn student, I recognize the importance of great study skills. I help students to find and strengthen their most effective note-taking, organization, time-management and memorization techniques. I emphasize strategies such as sorting papers in binders with tab dividers, keeping track of assignments with a personal calendar, highlighting or color-coding readings/notes, studying before "the night before", drawing diagrams, creating mnemonics and making flashcards. Organization is key! I enjoy working with students and aid in achieving their goals.
HobbiesAfter spending 2 years in industry, my husband and I discussed our future, so I quit to focus on our family. I am currently a stay- at-home mom with some free time to tutor and I have intentions of going back to school for certification in secondary education to teach Chemistry. I love spending time with family and friends. In my spare time I like working on arts and crafts such as cross stitching.
